Terms & Conditions
When Driving:
- Keep Left
- Do not use handheld devices, alcohol, drugs, or medications before operating the vehicle.
- Be mindful of other drivers, pedestrians and animals
- 10 mph in and around town and 20 mph max speed in country.
Seatbelt & Car Seat Requirements:
- All passengers must wear seat-belts when the vehicle is in operation.
- Children under 6 years old or less than 40 pounds must use a children’s car seat or appropriate restraint. Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental LLC (PCJR) agent(s) are not permitted to install car seats in your rental vehicle.
Rental Requirement for renting with us:
- All drivers must be 26 years of age at the time of the rental. A valid driver’s license is required for each driver, provide proof of auto liability and collision damage insurance valid to use in the US Virgin Islands, and a major credit card (Visa, Master Card, Discover) in his/her name at the time of rental. Temporary driver’s licenses will not be accepted.
Rental Agreement:
- The rental agreement is between Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC and the primary driver only. Only the person whose name on the credit card and is listed as the primary driver is allowed to pick up, sign for the rental vehicle, return vehicle, and associated charges. If the primary driver’s name and the credit card holder’s name do not match, the reservation will be cancelled, and the deposit forfeited.
- Only the primary driver and (1) additional authorized driver indicated on the rental agreement permitted to operate the vehicle.
- Primary driver is responsible for the cost (which is due in full, before or upon return of your rental vehicle) of all damages to your rental vehicle, all parking fines, tickets/violation(s), flat or damaged tires, lost/damaged keys, removal of trash inside of your rental vehicle upon return, dirty, sandy, smoke scented vehicle(s) and wet seats that occurred while the vehicle has been in your possession during the rental period.
- The primary driver is responsible for the actions & negligence of the additional driver on their rental agreement.
- The renter is responsible for knowing/educating themselves about the rules of the road & laws on the U.S Virgin Islands prior to renting. Most importantly Keep LEFT!
Rental pick up:
- At the time of rental pick up, the same credit card used to book the vehicle must be presented along with a valid driver license, & comprehensive auto insurance in the same name. Your credit card will be charged in full for the rental rate based on the parameters entered during your online reservation. Changing your confirmed reservations parameters could result in a different rate. Your card may be charged for the remaining balance prior to your arrival at our rental office but not before the rental pick up day listed on the reservation.
- Primary & (1) one additional driver must be present when picking up the vehicle.
Rental day:
- Business Hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. AST *Pick up time starts at 1 pm. *Return time is by 10 am. **Additional fees will apply if renter would like to pick up or return their rental vehicle earlier or later than the posted times. Any returns after 10:30 a.m. a $50.00 per hour charge will be added. After12:00p.m an entire rental day will be charged. Please Note: all rental extensions must be pre-authorized and are subject to availability.
Prepaid Reservation:
- This is a prepaid reservation, and a $100.00 deposit is required to hold all reservations. The name on the credit card used to book this reservation MUST match the name on the reservation listed as the primary driver. The primary driver MUST be present along with a valid driver’s license and auto insurance on the day of rental pick up. Anyone paying for the rental is required to be listed on the agreement no-exceptions.
Web reservation:
- Renter must complete the request form and click PAY NOW to reserve a vehicle. Your credit card will be charged $100.00 deposit to reserve the vehicle. A valid driver’s license is required for each driver, provide proof of auto liability and collision damage insurance valid to use in the US Virgin Islands, and present a major credit card (Visa, Master Card, Discover) in his/her name at the time of rental. Acceptable proof of insurance may be in the form of a letter from the customer’s insurance agent on a company letterhead or the declaration page or other pertinent pages from the insurance policy. Debit cards are not accepted.
Telephone reservation:
- Reservations may be made by phone by contacting us at 1-340-201-2501. Confirmation and communication regarding your reservation will be emailed to the email address provided on your reservation form.
Change a renter’s name:
- If you wish to change the renter’s name and/or credit card holder’s name, then the original reservation must be cancelled and a new reservation made.
Additional driver:
- An additional driver cost $8.00 per day. Only one (1) additional driver permitted per vehicle. All drivers must register in person before driving the vehicle and fulfilling ALL rental agreements (26-year-old, valid driver’s license, & proof of rental car insurance coverage in the US Virgin Islands).
- Authorized drivers: Only the primary driver and (1) one additional driver authorized on the rental agreement may drive your rental vehicle.
*Driving under the influence, or having an impairment due to alcohol, drugs or medication is strictly prohibited.
Foreign Driver’s license:
- Foreign country driver’s license is prohibited. A temporary driving permit can be purchased for $30.00 and is valid for 30 days. Please Note: A second form of I.D. such as a passport or other state issued I.D. are required for a temporary driving permit.
Business hours:
- Business Hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. AST *Pick up time starts at 1 pm. *Return time is by 10 am. **Additional fees will apply if renter would like to pick up or return their rental vehicle earlier or later than the posted times.
No-Shows:
- No-shows are renters who (no-show without advance calls or emails, being late without advance notice, not having the right documentations, not eligible (too young/not having right driver’s license) for the rental, or not having enough credit to cover the rental period. Please note: In the event of a no-show by the renter, we will retain 100% of the rental amount.
Cancellation policy
- Cancellations can be made 24 hours prior to pickup with no penalty, a less than 24 hrs notice will forfeit the renter’s $100.00 deposit acknowledgment of the cancellation will be emailed to the customer once we receive the cancellation request, and the reservation has been cancelled. Travel Delays:
- You are required to inform us of any delay(s) in your travel, to avoid cancellation by Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC agent. Failure to do so and having your Rental Request/Reservation/Rental Agreement canceled will be considered as a No-Show and we will retain 100% of the rental amount.

Rental Returns:
- The renter’s name on the rental agreement should be the person returning his or her rental vehicle. The vehicle MUST be returned at the scheduled location and time stated in your rental agreement otherwise additional charges may apply.
- Your vehicle(s) MUST be inspected by a Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC agent. Vehicle(s) returned without inspection from Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC agent, the renter will be responsible for any damage found that was not noted on your vehicle diagram upon rental pick up. Please be aware that the renter is responsible for the vehicle until Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC agent locates it. (eg: fuel, tickets, damages, theft, tire).
Early Returns:
- NO refunds or credit if you return rental vehicle early. If the rental vehicle is returned earlier than the return day listed on the reservation or rental agreement, the renter is still responsible for the full amount listed on the rental agreement.
- Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC is open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm AST. If returning your vehicle outside of normal business hours, please call, email, or text two (2) days in advance to arrange a date & time for return otherwise additional charges may apply.
Late Returns:
- If you wish to rent the vehicle for additional days, please contact Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC two (2) days in advance to check for availability. Failure to return your rental vehicle in accordance with your rental agreement may result in a criminal penalty of up to 3 years in jail.
Peak travel season:
- In season is November 15th to August 15th & Off season is August 16th to November 14th
Gas:
- Renters are asked to return their vehicle with the same amount of gas at the time of rental pick up. If returned with less than the same amount renters will be charged the price to refuel plus a $25 trip charge. Bring your fuel receipt with you when returning your vehicle. If you do not do so, we reserve the right to charge the renter for fuel needed and apply a refueling charge. Please Note: 91 or higher octane only. No refunds will be granted for returning a vehicle with more gas.
Tickets/Fines and violations:
- Upon return of your rental vehicle, you must declare all tickets, fines and violations received to a Paul’s Car & Jeep rental, LLC agent.
- You are responsible for all fines, including parking fines, tickets/violations incurred in relation to your rental vehicle during your rental period.
- If a ticket/fine or violation was not declared to us upon return of your rental, we will process these on your behalf, which we will pay and recover from you by way of reimbursement and add a processing charge. Alternatively, we may be required to provide your details to the relevant authority, who may contact you directly.
- The processing charge is for our time and costs we incur in dealing with any matter(s) pertaining to the rental vehicle you rented during your rental period.
Vehicle Maintenance:
- Vehicles must be in same condition it was received. Theft or Damage to the vehicle is the responsibility of the renter.
- John experiences sudden downpours of rain. Close vehicle windows and doors when the vehicle is unattended. Additional charges may apply for returning a vehicle with a wet interior.
- All vehicles are equipped with a spare tire and jack. Flat tires are the responsibility of the renter. Renter assumes the liability for all tire damage due to the negligence of the driver (nail in tire, punctured tire, accident-causing tire damage, etc.). If the tire requires replacement, the renter is responsible for the cost of the replacement.
- NO overloading vehicle with passengers or cargo. Maximum number of passengers are determined by the number of seatbelts in the vehicle. Overloading vehicles is strictly prohibited. Primary driver is responsible for their actions and additional driver while renting the vehicle. Vehicles are to be used only for transporting people, no hauling or roof storage of any kind is prohibited.
Wet Key:
- Damage, Wet, Bent, Lost keys are $450.00 to replace/program + $90.00 for delivery/ferry cost if lost or damaged.
Smoking:
- No smoking inside of vehicle. No exceptions. A $500 cleaning fee will be assessed for vehicles returned with evidence of smoking cigarettes, marijuana, or vaping. This covers our costs of preparing the vehicle for the next rental. Removing smoke scent requires a vehicle be taken out of service for at least 24-hours so it can be cleaned with a natural deodorizer and an oxidation process applied. In addition, we can suffer a loss of rental for the inability to rent your returned rental vehicle to our next
Cleaning:
- For wet seats, stains, or foul odor an additional charge starting from $250.00 may be charged. Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC reserves the right to determine the condition of the returned vehicle.
- Vehicles returned with excess sand or trash will be charged a $100.00 cleaning fee. Excess sand is determined if the rental vehicle has sand on the seats, in the cup holders, on the dashboard, or any other place other than the floor mats. To avoid additional fees, it is recommended that you remove trash and vacuum out your vehicle prior to return.
- No pets in vehicles. Charges may apply if evidence of pet in vehicle starting from $200.00 each pet.
Stolen or left items:
- Do not leave valuables in the vehicle. Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC is not responsible for lost, stolen items, or property left in the vehicle.
- Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC is not responsible for personal articles left in vehicles.
Roadside Assistance:
- Roadside assistance is available at $50.00 & should be paid before service is rendered (out of gas, lost keys, flat tire, battery low, other issues due to guest negligence). Roadside assistance is available on paved roads only and in place of residence.
Broken agreement:
- If the rental agreement is broken, or the vehicle is returned early or confiscated due to the renter not following the terms and conditions, the renter is still responsible for damages, refueling, or traffic violations, and the entire cost that was not mentioned at the time of return or confiscation.
Inspection in your absence:
- You should allow at least (1) hour before your ferry or flight to complete the inspection with a Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental agent. If you don’t have time to do this any new damage(s) found will be assessed in your absence.
- If you are not present on return, we will notify you by phone/ mail/ email and charge on your final invoice. We aim to complete this within 24 hours of the end of your rental.
- If you return your rental vehicle without having an inspection with a Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental agent you will remain fully responsible for the vehicle, including any damage, until we are able to locate it.
Driving restrictions:
- Vehicles may not be taken off the island of St. John. Please do not drive vehicles in ocean/sand, or unpaved/wash out roads. Customer will be charged $1,000.00 per day with no roadside assistance if violated. Damage/repair to the vehicle is the responsibility of the renter.
Hidden Damage(s):
- Some damage will not be apparent on post-rental inspection, such as damage caused to inaccessible parts of the vehicle (e.g. the engine, fuel tank or clutch) or hidden by adverse light or weather conditions. If we find any such damage we will notify you, with evidence, before we charge you.
- Post-rental inspection is not final on drop off until the vehicle is cleaned by a Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental agent.
- We aim to complete this within 24 hours of the end of your rental. Some charges can’t be finally determined on return, such as for major damages or any fines we receive relating to your rental. We will notify you of any such charges and arrange for payment when these are identified.
- If obtaining an estimate is not possible, due to shop closure, weekend or holiday renter agrees to pay $1500.00 insurance deductible. If the estimate amount is less than deductible, renter will be refunded the difference when estimate is obtained.
Unavailable vehicle:
- In the event a vehicle becomes unavailable or requires repair, Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC reserves the right to upgrade/change the reservation to a different vehicle type or book a vehicle elsewhere on the renter’s behalf.
Payment:
- We accept VISA, MASTER CARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS, and DISCOVER. We DO NOT Cash or Debit Cards for payment.
Taxes & Fees:
- Government tax is $3.75 per day, subject to change without notice.
Insurance:
- USVI law states that rental car company’s auto insurance is secondary to the renter’s auto insurance. As such, this requires ALL drivers listed on the rental agreement both (primary & additional) to provide proof of full coverage (liability & collision) in their name, issued by a US insurance company at the time of rental.
- Please contact your insurance agent to verify you are covered to drive in the USVI.
- Credit card coverage and travel insurance policies will NOT meet this requirement.
- Acceptable proof of insurance may be in the form of a letter from the customer’s insurance agent on a company letterhead or the declaration page or other pertinent pages from the insurance policy. Please do not fax or email us your insurance information ahead of your arrival. Customers are responsible for obtaining verification of coverage from their insurance carrier.
- Renter agrees to pay for all loss of use damages and lost rental income suffered by Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC as a result of the vehicle being repaired upfront upon vehicle return. Renter assumes all liability for any damage to the vehicle and all claims against Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC. and its owner not covered by this insurance. Renter will be held responsible for all damages, including loss of use, should the rental be damaged in an accident, stolen or vandalized. This is the case regardless of fault. Whether who is at fault in the accident, the renter may be asked to pay for the damages up to and including the total cost of replacing the rental in case of a total wreck or loss.
- If the vehicle is returned after the contract expires and has damages, this rental agreement is still considered to be in place until the vehicle has been inspected by a Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC agent and all damages and liabilities have been paid for by renter. Renter is still responsible for all damages to vehicle, property, injuries, and injuries resulting in death whether renter believes he/she was at fault. The renter is responsible for any suits and all expenses arising therefrom.
- In the event of a dispute, it must be litigated in the U.S Virgin Islands, renters will be responsible for their own attorney fees.
- *****All drivers listed on the rental agreement must provide proof of full coverage (liability and collision) rental car coverage in their name issued by a US insurance company at the time of rental. Credit card coverage and travel insurance policies will NOT meet this requirement.
Loss of use:
- Renter agrees to pay for any and all lost rentals as a result of the vehicle being repaired. All towing charges are paid by renter (primary or additional driver).
- The renter is responsible for loss of use and for paying all damages upon return of the vehicle, before leaving the island.

- Call the police immediately.
- Make a Police report Very Important (The officer(s) will give you a card containing the police report number).
- Get the other driver insurance information Very Important

- Submit an estimate to Paul’s Car & Jeep Rental, LLC for repairs needed.
- Renter will pay for all charges up front for any repairs, before leaving the island and before the return date on the rental agreement.
